Mariogold offers in-person, walk therapy, telecounselling and contracting services to residents of Alberta and Ontario (E-Counselling only)

Individual Counselling

We work with individuals on a range of issues, as seen above We will work together using a variety of therapeutic modalities to find what works best for you. My goal as a therapist is to work with you to help you come to realizations and coping skills that are helpful for you.

Couples Counselling

We provide a comfortable environment for all the individuals in the relationship.  My job as the therapist is to help you learn new ways to navigate your relationship and to work on opening up communication between you so there is better understanding.

Family Counselling

Working with families is about providing a safe space for all voices to be heard.  I will endeavor to help families learn to communicate honestly and openly with each other.

We offer a free 15 minute consultation.

Our standard fee for counselling is $150 per counselling hour which is within the standard range per session for Social Workers in Canada.

Contact us to discuss non-clinical consulting and case management service fees.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions are offered to couples and families for an increased fee.

Sliding scale fee is available to you if you do not have benefits to cover the cost of counselling. This rate is based on your gross household income and circumstances (i.e. teens and students) and range from $50 to $200 per counselling hour. Due to the high demand for sliding scale appointments, we cannot guaranteed that a spot will be available. Please email or call to inquire about this option.

Compassionate Rate: $75/HR if you are referred by a community organization (public / non-profit). Due to the demand for Compassionate Rate appointments, we cannot guarantee that a spot will be available. Please email or call to inquire about this option.

Some employer benefit plans provide coverage for counselling fees, please contact your employer for plan details. Plan must cover Registered Social Workers. We encourage you to speak with your insurance provider about counselling services provided by a registered social worker to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage.

As of 2012, Social Workers are now recognized as an income tax deductible medical expense by Revenue Canada.

All fees are payable at the time of each appointment, unless sessions have been paid for in advance or you have made other arrangements with your counsellor.

Acceptable forms of payment are e-transfers. Payments can be sent to

Please note that payment by e-transfer is due prior to each session and you may be charged a service fee by your bank.

Third Party Payments (EAP and other Benefit Providers):

People are directly responsible for payment of services as per the information above at the time of service.

A receipt will be provided with which persons can seek reimbursement from their EAP or benefit provider.

Counselling services for First Nations and Inuit clients with a status card may be covered by Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Non-Insured Health Benefits, under Mental Health Counselling (MHC) benefits.

No information regarding the content of information discussed will be provided without your consent. Once consent is provided, you will be charged as per the time required.

Sliding Scale Fees

Due to the high demand for my services, I do not offer a sliding scale at this time.

Parental Capacity Assessments: $9000.00 plus expenses

I typically allow one day for travel before spending two or three days on site. During this time, I meet with agency staff, spend time with the parents, review the child welfare file, meet with the child in his, her, or their home environment, observe a family visit (whether it be supervised or without an access facilitator), meet with collaterals (e.g. other professionals) as necessary, and meet with others requested by the parents. I allow two days for writing after leaving the site.

Workplace Culture Assessments. $9000.00 plus expenses

These assessments involve a detailed clinical exploration of the impacts of race and culture on individuals and communities and have been given authority in court. To complete them, I meet with people from the person’s family and community who can provide the insight needed to draw these conclusions.

Speaking and Institutional Consulting Work. $1000.00 per hour, $2800.00 per half day, $5000.00 per day

I am a sought after speaker, trainer and consultant. The half and full day fees listed include preparation time as well as onsite program delivery time. For example, a half day workshop actually requires a half day of preparation and a half day of delivery. A request to review and critique a policy document or to sustain a consulting relationship with a staff team may be charged by hours over multiple days. When asked to key note or deliver a brief presentation at a conference or workshop, the minimal cost for this is usually 1/2 day within the Halifax Metro area and a full day, outside of Metro. Travel costs are expected to be covered by the organization contracting the service. If you are an NGO wishing to engage my services but think you cannot afford these fees, please be in touch. I occasionally do work at reduced fees for NGO’s that do a work that serves my communities of concern.

Retained Consultant Work (Negotiated monthly fee)

Increasingly I am being asked to attach myself to projects that will take a long time in development or implementation. Though I am not available to be a hired employee for such initiatives, I have suggested that organizations work out an agreement to retain me as a consultant for a length of time. We establish a contract that specifies the kinds of contacts and anticipated time commitment over the course of the project and establish a monthly fee. Usually the contract includes a quarterly or monthly check in to decide if the contract is still relevant. This is often a more effective and efficient way to access my services over an extended period of time.

Clinical Consulting and Testifying: $250.00 per hour

I am often asked to consult on matters by other clinicians and agencies and to testify on matters before the courts or boards of inquiry. This work does not require additional preparation so fees are significantly less than institutional consulting work.
